[Open Call] Student Research Day 2026 – Calls Open Until October 5!

■ Purpose

This event brings together students from the fields of agriculture and engineering to foster their ability to communicate the appeal and significance of their research to students from different disciplines through cross-disciplinary research presentations. It also provides an opportunity for students to learn about each other’s research, deepen mutual engagement, and proactively generate new academic fields and interdisciplinary research collaboration.

■Venue
3F, Ellipse, 140th Anniversary Hall, Koganei Campus

■Overview

  • Applicants will undergo a written preliminary screening conducted by the Student Research Exchange Meeting Review Committee, and 30 students will be selected from among the applicants.
  • On the day of the event, students will participate in three sessions, each consisting of (1) a flash talk (self-introduction) and (2) a poster presentation.
  • Outstanding presentations will be recognized with awards.

■Eligibility

  • Regularly enrolled undergraduate or graduate students at TUAT who are fourth-year undergraduate students or above and have been assigned to a laboratory.
  • A maximum of two students from the same laboratory may be selected.

 

■Awards and Prizes
Outstanding research presentations will receive research funding for FY2026 (R8) as follows:

  1. Grand Prize:                                JPY 200,000 — 1 recipient
  2. FLOuRISH Director’s Award: JPY 100,000 — 1 recipient
  3. Excellence Award:                      JPY 50,000 — 2 recipients
  4. Audience Choice Award:          JPY 30,000 — 2 recipients

 

■Evaluation Criteria Screening Criteria
Both the preliminary screening (document review) and final evaluations will be based on the following criteria:
1. Interdisciplinary Communication Skills
・Is the presentation easy to understand for those outside the presenter’s field of expertise?
・Does the presenter explain the research with enthusiasm?
2. Logical Validity of the Research Question and Methodology
・Are the background and objectives of the research logically explained?
・Are the social and academic significance of the research theme clearly articulated, and likely to resonate with a wider audience?
・Is there a clear and logical explanation for the chosen research method and its effectiveness in producing the desired outcomes?
3. Research Novelty
・Is the originality of the approach to solving the research problem clearly articulated?
・Is the novelty or uniqueness of the research well explained, especially in comparison to existing or previous research?

■Submission Requirements for Applicants Who Pass the First-Round Screening

Applicants who pass the first-round screening are required to submit the following:

  • Poster
  • Flash Talk slides
  • Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)

Please refer to Appendix 1: “Guidelines for Preparing Materials for the Student Research Day.”

Submission Deadline: November 30, 2026 (Monday), noon

■Photography Notice
Photos of the event may be taken and published on the official websites of TUAT and FLOuRISH.
If you do not wish to be photographed or have your image published, please inform us in advance.

■Non-Disclosure Agreement
All presenters and audience members are required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

■Important Notice
Applicants who have previously presented at the Student Research Day may not submit a presentation on the same or substantially similar research topics as a previous presentation.

■Other
Research projects identified during the first-round screening (document review) as having strong potential for practical or social applications will be recommended for the Special Recommendation Track of the Academic Entrepreneur Challenge.
Applicants who choose to participate in the challenge will be exempted from the first-round screening of the pitch contest, which is scheduled to be held on February 26, 2027.
