2025 TUAT Student Research Day

■ Purpose and Overview

TUAT will host  TUAT Student Research Day 2025, which combines two events: the Student Research Exchange and the Academic Entrepreneur Challenge.

The Student Research Exchange aims to provide a platform where students can share and learn about each other’s work across fields such as agriculture and engineering, deepen mutual understanding, and foster interdisciplinary interaction. Through this, students are encouraged to spontaneously explore new academic frontiers and initiate interdisciplinary research. Presenters for the Exchange will be selected through a preliminary document screening.

The Academic Entrepreneur Challenge is a program that supports the creation and development of social implementation and business plans that address current or future societal challenges, based on original ideas derived from technological seeds. In preparation for the final pitch contest, participants will attend various seminars and receive mentorship from both internal and external experts. This process helps them gain new perspectives on research and develop their ideas. Participants will be selected from presenters in the Student Research Exchange whose advanced research seeds serve as the foundation for their proposals. By supporting these participants, the program aims to nurture talent capable of transforming research and scientific technology into innovations that address real-world problems.

Individuals or teams selected through a preliminary (document-based) screening for the Academic Entrepreneur Challenge will first present an overview of their research at the Student Research Exchange, and then present a business plan or social implementation proposal based on that research in the Academic Entrepreneur Challenge.

■ Eligibility

Student Research Exchange

  • TUAT students in their 4th year of undergraduate studies or above

Academic Entrepreneur Challenge (General Category)

  • Individuals or teams proposing plans based on research seeds presented at the Student Research Exchange

Academic Entrepreneur Challenge (Tech Garage Category)

  • Individuals or teams participating in student projects at TUAT’s Tech Garage

■ Awards & Prizes

Student Research Exchange
Outstanding presentations will receive the following research grants for FY2025:

  • Grand Prize: ¥200,000 × 1 recipient

  • Excellence Award (FLOuRISH Director’s Award): ¥50,000 × 2 recipients

  • Excellence Award (Deep Tech Industrial Development Organization Award): ¥50,000 × 2 recipients

  • Audience Choice Award: ¥50,000 × 1 recipient

Academic Entrepreneur Challenge
Outstanding presentations will be awarded prizes from both internal and external organizations:

  • President’s Award: ¥500,000 × 1 team
    (To be disbursed in FY2026 as a hypothesis testing fund in accordance with TUAT regulations.)

  • Corporate & Local Government Awards:

    • NEDO Award

    • INDEE Japan Award

    • Fukushima Prefecture Recovery Character “Kibitan” Award
      (One award each)

■ Mentoring Support for Academic Entrepreneur Challenge Applicants

Mentoring Application Deadline: Friday, July 11, 2025

Applicants wishing to receive support may apply for mentoring by TUAT faculty. Mentors will help improve your application through 1–2 feedback sessions before submission. To request mentoring, email FLOuRISH with the following information. Please prepare your draft application form in advance.
