“Next Generation AI PhD Human Resource Development Program Creating future society through cutting edge research（FL-BOOST）”
Summary of program
Since FY2021, TUAT has been implementing "FLOuRISH Fellowship Program Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (FL-SPRING)" for doctoral students as an open call and adopted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Since FY2024, the program has been newly adopted by JST as “Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation (JST-SPRING) “and “Broadening Opportunities for Outstanding young researchers and doctoral students in STrategic areas (JST-BOOST)” and TUAT has been implementing them as "FL-SPRING" and "FL-BOOST”.

- FL-SPRING has an early selection process for M1 students (winter, 1 time per year).

Purpose
As the TUAT’s vision “Mission Oriented Research and Education giving Synergy in Endeavors toward a Sustainable Earth: MORE SENCE”, TUAT has been promoting the creation of science and technology useful to society and human resources through university-wide collaboration. The current president set the vision: "become a world-leading research university that spins the Earth", designated "food", "energy", "life science" and "environment" as priority research fields, and has strengthened research capabilities and reformed university.
As the research university, TUAT has been fostering "true science-based advanced innovation leaders". These refer to leaders who have a cutting-edge perspective between agriculture and engineering, and can lead research and technological development in collaboration with other research fields, in order to solve the global challenges facing humanity in the 21st century and to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In order to promote such human resource, in 2021 TUAT established the “Institute for Fostering Leadership to create future value through Outstanding Research, Innovation and Sustainable Higher education (FLOuRISH)”, and has conducted “FL-Spring”, focusing on the following four points.
- Deepening of research capabilities
- Developing new research areas from diverse perspectives
- Creation of future values through social contributions (including social implementation etc.)
- Realization of diverse career paths
In addition, since 2024 as “FL-BOOST”, FLOuRISH has started training global next-generation AI PhD with advanced expertise and multidisciplinary perspectives who develop, apply, and practice the latest AI, mathematical, and data science technologies.
Outline of “FL-SPRING” and “FL-BOOST”
In FY2024, the following programs are available to students selected as fellows of “FL-SPRING” and “FL-BOOST”: “Financial Support,” “Support for Study in Japan and Abroad” and “Program to promote multidisciplinary cutting-edge research capabilities” as follows.

Program to promote multidisciplinary cutting-edge research capabilities
